The project is located in a region with a high degree of environmental value. The Hardangerbridge will be seen within a large area. A suspension bridge is in general a symmetrical, harmonic element in the landscape. The bridge will give little impacts in the landscape since the bridge ends in tunnels on both sides of the fjord. The project causes little impact in nature environment.
However, the impact on the south side is in area of with a landscape of local high value. Further, the project gives small consequences for the cultural environment. A part of the old valuable local road has to be relocated. Further the bridge will be a negative element in relation to the old protected "Vallavik tunet".
During the construction the project management will emphasis the importance of the environmental issues. There will be established a special environmental program to ensure this task.
