The intent with the National Plan of Action Road Safety is partly to show what challenges lie ahead of us in the traffic safety effort and which measures are relevant.
The number of fatalities and serious injuries in road traffic in Norway is reduced by more than 50% since 1970. The risk is among the lowest in the world. A continued reduction requires enforced efforts from all actors and willingness to use new measures.
The plan is elaborated by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, the National Police Directorate, the Directorate for Health and Social Wellfare, and the Norwegian Council for Road Safety on an assignment from the Department of Transport.
The National Action Plan for Road Safety 2006-2009 is based on its equivalent for the period 2002-2011.
