DATEX2 (specification for DATa EXchange between traffic and travel information centres) is a European standard for the exchange of traffic information based on a well known information model using the format Extensible Markup Language (XML).
DATEX II can be used for cross-border data exchange between national or regional Traffic Information Centres (TIC) and for exchange between TICs and media or service providers of traffic and travel information. Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) has implemented DATEX II version 2.0 as standard format for the exchange of real time road and traffic data.
Real time road weather data, travel times, CCTV images and incidents from the national TIC-system (including closed roads and road works) are available in DATEX II format, free of charge for media and service providers.
NPRA welcomes feedback from users in order to make improvements to the service.
Conditions for use of DATEX II data from NPRA will be in accordance with Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data, NLOD. In order to get access to data, please accept a terms for access and register here.
With the introduction of DATEX2 it is important to notice that the following services from NPRA will be phased out:
- XML for road and traffic information
- XML for CCTV (phased out from 10/8-2015)
- XML for travel times (phased out from 18/8-2015)
Closing date for the above mentioned services will be announced well in advance.
However, we strongly recommend that existing and future users of real time road and traffic data from NPRA, study the user guide for DATEX2-specification as soon as possible. More information can be obtained here.
