Vehicle Information is an open service on the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's website where anyone can find information about a vehicle.

Odometer readings (kilometres travelled) can be found when you log in to Your Page.

Vehicle Information includes the status of mandatory roadworthiness tests (“EU tests”), make and model, dimensions and weights, emissions data, engine type, engine power, fuel type, etc. You can also find the date of registration and first-time registration. We collect this information from our register of motor vehicles. To find information about a vehicle, you need a registration number, a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), or a personalised plate number. The facility also provides a link to Your Page where you can log in with BankID and find the owner of the vehicle as well as its odometer readings.

Restricted number of searches and availability

The information may be up to 24 hours late if someone else has recently searched for the same vehicle.

You cannot search for more than 30 vehicles per hour from the same IP address. This restriction is meant to ensure that our systems are available to other users and case officers.

Please contact us if the information is incorrect

If you believe that the information is incorrect or not in accordance with the Vehicle Registration Certificate, please contact your nearest Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (trafikkstasjon) so that we can check the vehicle more closely and update the data in our register as required.

If you have technical questions about using the facility, please contact us so we can help you.

How to find the owner of a vehicle

The name of the owner of a vehicle will not appear on our web pages, for privacy reasons. To check who owns a vehicle, you can log in to Your Page or use our SMS service.

Odometer readings available on Your Page

To see what odometer readings have been reported to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration for a vehicle in the connection with a mandatory roadworthiness test, you need to log in to Your Page. Odometer readings are no longer openly available because they are considered personal data.

How odometer readings are reported

At each mandatory roadworthiness test, the garage (inspection body) reports the odometer reading to the NPRA, as displayed at the time of the inspection. You should check that the odometer reading the garage has written on the inspection sheet is correct when you collect your vehicle. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration does not check that the reporting is correct, we only show data we have received from the garages.

The facility may display multiple odometer readings registered on the same day or within a short period of time. This is because the garage must report mandatory roadworthiness tests and re-inspections separately, and each time the vehicle is tested or inspected, the garage must read the odometer and submit the reading to the NPRA.

If the vehicle was imported used and first-time registered in Norway after 30 November 2009, the odometer reading from the time of registration will also be displayed in our facility.

Odometer discrepancy

Discrepancies in odometer reading history is not necessarily a sign of fraud. It may be caused by a simple typing error by the inspector registering the data, the odometer may have been defect or replaced, or numbers have been changed from miles to kilometres. Odometers in old vehicles in many cases go back to zero for every 100 000 km.

If the garage (inspection body) registers and reports the wrong odometer reading to us, it will not be corrected. This is because as a supervisory authority we wish to preserve all data as they were reported. This will keep shady operators from speculating in changing the odometer reading up or down.

If you discover that the wrong odometer reading has been registered before you leave the garage, the odometer reading can be corrected by deleting the inspection sheet and reporting a new one.
