RDS-TMC stands for "Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel" and is an European standard for language independent traffic information.

What is RDS-TMC?

RDS-TMC (Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel) is a European standard for a language independent traffic information service. The service is based upon a common European code list of messages (Event List), and a standardised system for the location of messages (Location Table). The TMC messages are broadcast as a silent RDS signal alongside radio program broadcasts in the FM-band. Since Norway switched to DAB and digital radio in 2017, the RDS-TMC services are closed. Location Table is still in use in navigation devices and traffic-solutions.
