Please note that proposed changes have been made to the regulations regarding the exchange of driving licences from countries outside the EEA (European Economic Area). If the changes are approved, they will likely take effect from 1 April 2024. You will then be able to reapply under the new rules.

Here are the main points of the proposed changes:

  • Remove the one- and two-year deadlines.
  • Eliminate the requirements for compulsory night driving instruction, first aid, and safety and skidpan driving course.
  • Introduce a requirement for a theory test and driving test for driving licence category B and A.
  • Introduce a limit of two attempts for the driving test. Attempts made under the current rules will still count towards this limit after the changes.
  • Swiss driving licences shall be treated the same way as EEA driving licences.

You can find more information about the proposed changes here (Norwegian only).

A summary and conclusion will be published at the same webpage during February 2024.
