“Light vehicle categories” refers to moped (AM/M), passenger car (B, B96, BE), motorcycle (A1, A2, A), snowmobile (S) and tractor (T).

If your driving licence has expired due to health reasons, you need to present a valid health certificate, and - if applicable - a valid eyesight certificate, when you come to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (trafikkstasjon). The health certificate must be no older than 3 months.

Renewing your licence after you turn 75

If you wish to continue driving after you have turned 75, you need to obtain a health certificate from your doctor. Your health certificate will be valid for up to 3 years, depending on your health. You will be issued with a new driving licence with a length of validity based on your health certificate.

Other renewals

  • If you need to renew your driving licence due to not having taken the night driving course, you will be able to renew it as soon as your driving school has notified us that you have completed the course.
  • If your driving licence expired before 2 April 1982, you need to pass your practical driving test in order to have it renewed.
  • If you got your Category B driving licence with a validity of 2 years before 1 March 1995 and have not yet renewed it, you need to document that you have completed the night driving course and pass a practical driving test in order for the driving licence to be renewed.
