If you order and pay online, the price is lower than if you do so at a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (DVLO). See how to renew your driving entitlements for light vehicle categories, heavy vehicle categories and renewing your driving licence after you turn 80

First submit your health certificate

If you are renewing your licence for heavy vehicle categories, or if your driving licence has limited validity due to reasons of health or because you have turned 80, you need to submit a health certificate before you can renew your driving licence. The health certificate may be handed in  or sent by post to your nearest DVLO (in norwegian). It may take up to five working days before your health certificate is registered in our files. Your new driving licence will be issued with a length of validity based on your health certificate.

You do not need to submit a health certificate if you are renewing your driving licence because you have completed the night driving course and/or the safety course on a practice range, or because you have changed your name or the photo on your driving licence is too old or unclear.

Renewing online

Once we have registered your health certificate, you can renew your driving licence on Your Page. For online renewal of your driving licence the price is NOK 140. You can pay by VISA, Mastercard or BankAxess. When you have paid, you download and print out a temporary driving permit, which you may use until you receive your new driving licence by post (normal delivery time is up to seven working days).

When you renew your driving licence online, you are yourself responsible for destroying your old driving licence. You may destroy your driving licence yourself, or hand it in at aDVLO. Please note that your old driving licence becomes invalid when you renew your licence.

If your photo was taken before 1 January 2012 or if you have changed your name, you need to visit a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (trafikkstasjon) in person to have your driving licence and driving entitlements renewed.

Ordering at a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (DVLO)

If you choose to renew your driving licence at a DVLO you need to bring your health certificate and, if applicable, your eyesight certificate. You also need to bring valid proof of identity and your old driving licence.

If you renew your driving licence at a DVLO, the price is NOK 300. If you need a new photo, there will be an additional charge of NOK 80. Check opening hours and payment methods at the DVLO (in norwegian). When you have paid, you will be issued a temporary driving permit, which you can use until you receive your new driving licence by post. Normal delivery time up to seven working days.
