Are you planning a road trip in Norway? Here is some practical advice to make your trip safe and pleasant.

Plan the trip

Plan your route and check road and driving conditions.
Secure the load and avoid loose items in the car.
Don't overpack. Stay within the maximum load capacity of your car or roof box.
Secure animals using a cage or harness designed for cars.

Use the seat belt

Both drivers and passengers must always use the seat belt, also in buses where belts are installed. There are specific rules for securing children in cars.

You can avoid being charged a lookup fee if you register for an account on Epass24 or sign up for an AutoPASS agreement. An AutoPASS agreement provides discounts on toll crossings and may be more convenient for you if you often drive in Norway.

Are you going to drive a motorhome or tow a caravan?

Be extra careful in strong winds if you are driving across bridges.
Adjust your speed in tunnels and be prepared for oncoming traffic.

Parking and rest areas

Stop and rest if you get tired. Find rest areas along the road on the NPRA's page on road and traffic information.
Leave toilets and rest areas in the same state you wish to find them.
