Trygg Trailer is a joint venture between the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) and buyers of freight transport services.

The transport purchasing companies receive information about requirements for winter tyres and chains from the NPRA and can make a simple inspection of “their” vehicle combinations. Vehicles that are not well enough equipped when they arrive at the company can be rejected as carriers.

Every winter we experience congestion and dangerous situations caused by inadequately equipped vehicle combinations. Efforts that contribute to improved winter equipment of heavy vehicles will yield positive results for the transport purchasing company itself as well as for all road users on Norwegian roads:

  • Improved road safety
  • Improved traffic flow in winter
  • Reduced/more predictable transport time
  • Increased profitability
  • Improved working conditions (for drivers)
  • Through participation in Trygg Trailer, a company can contribute to increased safety for the transport of its goods.

For drivers

If you as a driver are to carry goods for a Trygg Trailer company, you risk having your vehicle’s winter equipment inspected by the company’s employees.

The company employees have received instructions from the NPRA how to check that tyres and chains are OK.

The rules for tyres and chains in Norway can be found here.

The company will also provide you with information about driving on winter roads in Norway (Trucker’s Guide, which is available in many languages) and some articles that may be useful.

If your vehicle does not have good enough tyres and the required number of tyre chains, you risk being rejected as a carrier.
