Five tenderers competed for the project, and the contract was awarded to NCC. The contract is worth more than NOK 183 million. This is the first project in the plan to build an improved and continuous E39 between Kristiansand and Trondheim.

When the Rogfast project has been completed, travel time between Stavanger and Bergen will be reduced by 40 minutes. At the same time, the project will facilitate the establishment of an extended residential and labour market in this region, which will also support important business clusters.

Tunnel for transport of rock and soil materials

The tunnel to be built is a side tunnel (cross-cut tunnel) that will be 2 kilometres long. The tunnel is to be used for transport of excavated materials during the construction of the two main tubes. When Rogfast opens, the cross-cut tunnel will be used as a ventilation shaft.

Construction time of one year

The contract is a one-year-long EPC contract. This means that the contractor is responsible for engineering and construction design. The contract only makes up just above one percent of the total cost of Rogfast, and the entire project is planned to be completed within eight years.
