Platform North highlighted at Connecting Europe Days
EU expectations for transport in the north are providing important input to Platform North’s work.
Platform North was highlighted by several speakers at Connecting Europe Days 2026, held in Brussels this week. The event is the EU’s main event for transport and mobility and brought together more than 4,000 participants to discuss key issues and priorities in the sector.
Among the speakers were the European Coordinators for two transport corridors that meet in the Northern Nordics: Pat Cox, responsible for the Scandinavian–Mediterranean Corridor, and Catherine Trautmann, responsible for the North Sea–Baltic Corridor.
The attention also brings expectations, says Ine Hilling, Chair of Platform North.
“We must take note of the expectations from the EU and reflect them in our work.”
Ine Hilling attended the event together with several members of Platform North’s Steering Committee and working groups.
Transport infrastructure is key to European security
The discussions in Brussels also provided new perspectives on the role of transport infrastructure in European security.
“I am taking home many important insights and perspectives. For instance, it touches me deeply to hear Thomas Maier from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, DG MOVE, say that the return on investment, or the socioeconomic benefit, of military mobility is nothing less than peace in Europe”, says Ine Hilling.
New work plans for European transport corridors
The European Commission presented new work plans for the European transport corridors during the event. The plans describe progress so far, remaining investment needs and bottlenecks that must be addressed.
The plans include the Scandinavian–Mediterranean and North Sea–Baltic corridors, which connect northern Finland, Sweden and Norway with the wider European transport network.
