RDS-TMC stands for "Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel" and is an European standard for language independent traffic information.
What is RDS-TMC?
RDS-TMC (Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel) is a European standard for a language independent traffic information service. The service is based upon a common European code list of messages (Event List), and a standardised system for the location of messages (Location Table). The TMC messages are broadcast as a silent RDS signal alongside radio program broadcasts in the FM-band. Since Norway switched to DAB and digital radio in 2017, the RDS-TMC services are closed. Location Table is still in use in navigation devices and traffic-solutions.
Downloading the Norwegian Location Code and Event List
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) maintain and publish the Norwegian RDS-TMC Location Table and the RDS-TMC Event List.
TMC Location Table is certificated by TISA (Traveller Information Services Association).
Copying, use, modifying and distribution of this information is subject to the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD).
Downloading the Norwegian Location Table and Event List will mainly be of interest to suppliers of equipment and services.
