How to get a CPC
To undergo training, you need to meet the requirements regarding age, health and driving entitlement.
Before you can start training
You need to
- be at least 20 years old
- meet the health requirements for driving licence group 3 with a CPC
- have held a Category B driving licence for passenger cars continuously over the last two years
- document that your employment or voluntary work requires emergency response driving
You need to submit the original version of your health certificate
Some medical doctors/GPs are able to send health certificates digitally. If your regular doctor does not offer this service, you need to send the original health certificate to your local Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office.
You need book an appointment with a doctor to get a health certificate. In some cases, you will also need to submit an eyesight certificate from an optometrist or ophthalmologist (eye specialist). Find out from your doctor whether this is necessary.
Your health certificate cannot be more than three months old when we receive it.
You will receive confirmation by SMS and email once we have registered your health certificate. You can also see on Your Page that it has been registered.
Training
You need to complete mandatory training for emergency response driving, and to pass both a theory test and a practical driving test. The training must be provided by an approved course organiser.
Theory test
You can take the theory test for emergency vehicle driving when your health certificate has been registered by the NPRA and you have completed the training up to and including Step 3. The course organiser must have reported your training to the NPRA.
You need to book an appointment for the theory test
You take the test at a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (trafikkstasjon). When you present yourself for the test, you will have to show valid proof of identity and pay the fee for the test.
If you failed your theory test
You can take the practical driving test even if you failed the theory test. Then you will have to pass the theory test within three months of passing the practical driving test, otherwise you will need to take a new driving test.
Practical driving test
It is the course organiser who books the practical driving test for you.
You can take the practical driving test for emergency response driving when you have taken the theory test and completed all mandatory training. The course organiser must also have reported your training to the NPRA.
When you present yourself for the test, you will have to show valid proof of identity and pay the fee for the test.
When you have completed your training and passed the tests you will be issued with a new driving licence with code 160.
