Traffic safety
Traffic safety efforts in Norway are based on a vision of no accidents with fatalities or serious injuries in road traffic - the zero vision.
The National Action Plan for Road Safety on Roads 2026–2029 is a four-year plan for road safety efforts in Norway. It is a collaboration between the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, the police, the Norwegian Directorate of Health, the Norwegian Directorate of Education, Trygg Trafikk, the county municipalities and eight metropolitan municipalities. Several other national public sector actors and about 20 interest groups also contributed to the plan.
The plan contains 200 targeted measures. These will help us achieve the ambition in the National Transport Plan 2025–2036 of a maximum of 350 killed or seriously injured in 2030, of whom a maximum of 50 are killed, and that no one will die in road traffic in 2050.
665 people either killed or seriously injured in road traffic in 2024. Of these, 87 were killed.
