Traffic safety
Traffic safety efforts in Norway are based on a vision of no accidents with fatalities or serious injuries in road traffic - the zero vision.
The National Action Plan for Road Safety on Roads 2022–2025 (PDF) is a four-year plan for road safety work in Norway. The plan is a collaboration between the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, the police, the Norwegian Directorate of Health, the Norwegian Directorate of Education, Trygg Trafikk, the county municipalities and eight metropolitan municipalities. In addition, a number of other public actors at the national level and about 20 interest groups have contributed to the plan.
The plan contains 179 targeted measures. These will help us achieve the ambition in the National Transport Plan 2025–2036 of a maximum of 350 killed or seriously injured in 2030, of which a maximum of 50 are killed, and that no one will die in road traffic in 2050. In 2023 in comparison, 628 people were killed or seriously injured in road traffic, of which 93 were killed.
