Proper parking contributes to safe traffic and can save you from unnecessary fines during your holiday.

Do not park where prohibited

Parking is prohibited

  • on the pavement, pedestrian crossings, cycle lanes, bus lanes or passing places
  • in front of entrances and exits for vehicles
  • where you find the signs "No parking" or "No stopping"
  • less than 5 metres from a crossroads

Do not stop or park in a passing place

The passing place is for vehicles to pass each other damage-free on narrow roads.

Passing places are often signposted like this in Norway (M = Møteplass).

Follow signs and markings carefully

The sign applies from where it stands and up to the next sign or crossroads. Park within marked bays. Familiarise yourself with what the different signs mean.

Respect disability parking signs

Disability parking spaces are only for those with a valid parking permit.

A parking violation may result in a fine or towing

It is not enough to say that you did not see the sign – you have a duty to familiarise yourself with the signs that are located near a parking area. In the case of serious or dangerous parking violation, your car may be towed away by the authorities.

You may be fined up to NOK 990.

You are responsible for how you park

Even if you remain seated in the car, you must follow parking rules.
