Granting exception to drivers’ hours after Levanger landslide
On Saturday, the Norwegian Directorate of Public Roads granted an exception to the rules on driving time and rest periods.
The exception applies to transports affected by the closure of the E6 at Levanger.
After the landslide at E6 Nesvatnet in Levanger, traffic is diverted via County Road 755 (Fv 755) for vehicles up to 50 tonnes. Modular vehicle combinations cannot use this diversion route. An alternative is to drive via the E14 in Sweden. These alternative diversions involve significant transport delays.
Therefore, the following driving time and resting periods apply:
- Daily driving time must not exceed 10 hours (originally 9 hours)
- Weekly driving time must not exceed 60 hours (originally 56 hours)
- Total accumulated driving time during two consecutive weeks must not exceed 100 hours (originally 90 hours)
- A driver may have at most five reduced daily rest periods between two weekly rest periods (originally limited to three)
The exception applies from 30 August 2025 to 6 September 2025 inclusive, or until the E6 reopens to traffic if this occurs first.
Temporary border crossing via Sweden
In addition to exemption from the driving and rest time regulations, the Swedish Customs Authority has adopted temporary exceptions for border crossing and simplified reporting procedures for goods intended for the Norwegian market that need to be transported via Sweden due to the landslide on the E6.
Their decision allows commercial transports to use an alternative route via E14 Storlien and from there along the Lv 322 / Fv 72 to Verdal.
Norwegian and Swedish Customs emphasise that permission is granted to cross the border into Sweden using the alternative route E14 Storlien and the Lv 322 / Fv 72 to Verdal, or the opposite direction, on the following conditions:
- Permission is granted for the period 3 September – 1 October 2025 and applies to border crossing only on the above-mentioned route. The purpose of allowing border crossing is to facilitate the transport of Norwegian goods that cannot be transported along the E6 due to the landslide on the E6 in Levanger.
- Transports must follow the specified route without deviation, and it is not permitted to load, unload or take breaks on Swedish territory.
- It is not permitted to transport goods subject to import restrictions.
