Travel Time Data - End of lifecycle
"TravelTimeData" and "PredefinedTravelTimeLocations" publications will be gradually retired as part of modernisation of the travel time data solution.
Why?
Travel time data are currently collected using AutoPASS antennae located on selected road sections. The equipment is old, and the solution requires resources for operation, maintenance and new installations.
In the meantime, the travel time data market has evolved significantly. Alternative technologies and data sources now exist that offer new possibilities. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has tested alternative solutions and considers them to be mature enough to replace the current system.
To use public resources as efficiently as possible, we will migrate from the current solution and adopt a more modern method for collecting travel time data.
When?
The current contract for maintenance and new installations expires in October 2026. The retirement process is expected to begin in November 2026 and will continue throughout 2027.
Implications
If you use “TravelTimeData” or “PredefinedTravelTimeLocations”, the gradual retirement process may affect your services or systems. As equipment is decommissioned, data quality may deteriorate.
Please assess the implications for your system and make any necessary adjustments. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration will provide regular updates about the process.
