You can usually renew your driving licence on Your Page, but in some cases, you need to book an appointment at a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office.

You need to visit a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (trafikkstasjon) if

  • the photo on your driving licence was taken before 1 January 2012
  • you have changed your name

You need to book an appointment. Please bring your old driving licence. You will need to take a photo in a photo booth at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office.

Renew your driving licence online

Unless you need a new photo for your driving licence or have changed your name, you can renew your driving licence on Your Page. 

If you need to submit a health certificate, you have to send it by post to your Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office before you can renew your licence. Check if your doctor can send it for you. 

You are responsible for destroying your old driving licence.

If you need to submit an eyesight certificate

If you have any issues with your eyesight that require you to see an optician or ophthalmologist (eye specialist), you also need to submit an eyesight certificate. Find out from your doctor whether this is necessary.

You can obtain an eyesight certificate from a government-approved optometrist or ophthalmologist. Authorised optometrists and ophthalmologists may send the eyesight certificate digitally to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. You can also send it or hand it in to your nearest Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office. 

If you need to renew your driving licence after taking a course

If you have taken the night driving course or safety course on a practice track (for Category C, D or DE) after the driving test, you need to renew your driving licence by ordering a new driving licence on Your Page. You have to wait until the driving school has reported it to us.

How to check the validity term of your driving licence

The validity term of your driving licence card is normally found on the front under item 4b. On the back of your driving licence, you will find the validity terms for the different driving entitlements (licence categories). You can also check the digital driving licence app or log in to Your Page.
