When do I need to have my vehicle tested?
The inspection month is determined by the last digit on your vehicle’s registration plate.
Vehicles which have plates with
- 1 as the last digit are to be inspected by the end of January.
- 2 as the last digit “ by the end of February.
- 3 as the last digit “ by the end of March.
- 4 as the last digit “ by the end of April.
- 5 as the last digit “ by the end of May.
- 6 as the last digit “ by the end of June.
- 7 as the last digit “ by the end of November.
- 8 as the last digit “ by the end of August.
- 9 as the last digit “ by the end of September.
- 0 as the last digit “ by the end of October.
What vehicles must be tested?
Passenger cars (M1) with a maximum authorised mass of 7,500 or less and delivery vans (N1) are to be tested for the first time within the fourth calendar year after first-time registration, and then every second year thereafter.
The following vehicles must be tested for the first time at least 12 months after first-time registration, and then every calendar year thereafter:
- Passenger cars (M1) with a maximum authorised mass of more than 7,500 kg
- buses (M2 and M3)
- lorries (N2 og N3)
- trailers with a maximum authorised mass of more than 3,500 kg
- taxis
- ambulances
Who can test your vehicle?
The roadworthiness test can be carried out by an establishment/supervisory body approved by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, including authorised garages and NAF (Norwegian Automobile Association) testing stations. The testing establishment is responsible for reporting the test result to the NPRA. You are also entitled to receive a copy of the inspection sheet, so that if questions arise at a later stage you will have documentation showing that the vehicle has been tested.
