Category DE entitles you to drive a bus and tow a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of more than 750 kg.

You must be at least 24 years old and hold a driving licence for Category D to get a Category DE licence.

You may be younger than 24 if you are undergoing or have completed mandatory training for a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

If you hold a driving licence for Categories C and D and you upgrade to include Category CE, you will automatically also get a Category DE licence.

Bus

You can drive a bus that is approved for more than 8 passengers. It can be more than 8 metres long.

Bus with trailer

You can tow a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of more than 750 kg.

A Category DE driving licence is also valid for a minibus with trailer. In your driving licence, this is marked as Category D1E.

Passenger car with trailer

You can drive a passenger car and tow a trailer with a maximum authorised mass between 750 kg and 3,500 kg. The car can be approved for no more than 8 passengers. In your driving licence, this is marked as Category BE.

Are you transporting passengers for money?
