Driving practice with a moped (AM)
You must have completed the Basic Traffic Course and be at least 15 years old to be allowed to practise driving a moped (Categories AM 146 and AM 147).
The person accompanying you
- must be at least 25 years old
- must have held a licence for the same category you are training in, continuously for the last five years
- must ride a two-wheeled motorcycle when accompanying a learner in Category AM 146 (following behind in a car or on a moped is not allowed)
- must be in the same vehicle as you when you are practising for Category AM 147 (the vehicle must have room for a passenger)
Where can you practise driving?
On a practice track or a closed-off area you may drive alone if the person accompanying you can see you at all times and give you instructions. If you are practising on the road or in other areas that are not closed off, your supervisor (accompanying driver) must drive their own vehicle or be seated in the same vehicle as you, see above. The accompanying driver can only accompany one learner at a time.
Communication between you and your supervisor
On the road or other areas that are not closed off, your accompanying driver (supervisor) should be able to give you instructions through two-way communication equipment. You can purchase various types of two-way communication equipment for use during driving practice. You can also use a mobile phone, but this requires that you have additional equipment to ensure that you will not be violating the prohibition against using a handheld mobile phone while driving.
Vest with L
Both you and your accompanying driver must wear a reflective vest with the letter L on the back. The letter should be clearly visible to those driving behind you and be red on a white background.
