Category C1E entitles you, among other things, to drive a light lorry and tow a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of more than 750 kg.

You must be at least 18 years old and hold a driving licence for Category C1 to get a Category C1E licence.

Information about a vehicle or trailer, such as its maximum authorised mass, can be found in the Vehicle Registration Certificate.

Light lorry

You can drive a light lorry with a maximum authorised mass between 3,500 kg and 7,500 kg. It can be approved for no more 8 passengers.

Light lorry with trailer

You can tow a trailer if it has a maximum authorised mass of no more than 750 kg.

You can tow a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of more than 750 kg if the combined maximum authorised mass of the car and trailer is no more than 12,000 kg.

Passenger car with trailer

You can drive a passenger car and tow a trailer with a maximum authorised mass between 750 kg and 3,500 kg. The car can be approved for no more than 8 passengers. In your driving licence, this is marked as Category BE.

Tractor

You can drive a tractor that has a maximum authorised mass of up to 7,500 kg. There is no limitation in terms of speed capacity.

You can tow a trailer behind the tractor.

The driving entitlement for tractors is only valid in Norway.

Note: If you acquired a Category T or B driving licence before 1 January 2005, you can drive a tractor with or without a trailer. There are no limitations in terms of weight or speed capacity. In your driving licence, this is marked with code 142.

Motorised equipment

You can drive motorised equipment with a maximum authorised mass of up to 7,500 kg, with or without a trailer. Examples of motorised equipment include forklifts and wheel loaders.

There is no limitation in terms of speed capacity.

The driving entitlement for motorised equipment is only valid in Norway.

With a Category B licence acquired before 1 January 2005 (code 152)

You can drive motorised equipment with a maximum authorised mass of more than 7,500 kg, with or without a trailer, if it has a maximum speed capacity of no more than 50 km/h.

With a Category C1 licence acquired before 1 January 2005 (code 140)

You can drive all types of motorised equipment with or without a trailer.
