A registered but uninsured vehicle that is subject to mandatory insurance will incur an omission fine for each day the vehicle remains uninsured.

For passenger cars, the fine amounts to NOK 150 kroner per day.

Have you received a letter with a charge for an uninsured vehicle?

Read more about what to do if you have been charged a fine (“omission fee”) for an uninsured vehicle on the website of the Norwegian Motor Insurers’ Bureau (TFF). Here you can also find out what to do if you believe you have been wrongly charged.

Check what vehicles you own

Start by logging in to check what vehicles you are registered as the owner or co-owner of. If you have questions about the ownership, if you think something is wrong, or if you are listed as the owner of a vehicle that you believe has never been in your possession, please contact us by phone.

Have you sold the vehicle?

If you have sold the vehicle, you must submit a Notification of Sale so that the change of ownership can be registered with us. If you have sold the vehicle and for some reason are unable to submit a Notification of Sale signed by both the seller and the buyer, you may apply for an exemption from the requirement to submit a Notification of Sale. Please send your application to us by email, including all available documentation relating to the sale and the buyer’s contact details.

Is the vehicle not in use?

If the vehicle is no longer in use, you can deregister it. The insurance will automatically be cancelled, and you will not be charged for non-insurance while the vehicle is deregistered.

If you still have the vehicle, but do not have the number plates, you must report the loss of number plates to the police before you can go to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office to obtain new plates or deregister the vehicle.

If you no longer have access to the vehicle but are still registered as the owner, you can apply to have the vehicle administratively deregistered. Please send your application to us by email. Make sure you describe the case in detail and include all available documentation that may contribute to explaining the case.

If you believe the vehicle has already been deregistered or scrapped, you can apply for administrative deregistration or, if possible, obtain a confirmation of scrapping.

Not sure if you have insurance?

Please contact your insurance company. You can also check whether you have valid insurance by logging in to the website of the Norwegian Motor Insurers’ Bureau (Norwegian only).
