Raudhammar Tunnel: Temporary exemption from driving and rest time regulations

Following the fire in the Raudhammar Tunnel on E6, the NPRA has decided to introduce temporary exemptions from the driving and rest time regulations.

The exemptions apply to drivers who are directly affected by the closure of the tunnel and who carry out national or international road transport of goods.

The arrangement is valid from Friday 27 March until 25 April 2026 or until the tunnel reopens.

The temporary exemptions allow for:

  • a daily driving time of up to 10 hours
  • a weekly driving time of up to 60 hours
  • a total driving time of up to 100 hours over two consecutive weeks

The measure has been introduced because the Raudhammar Tunnel was closed following a bus fire during the night leading into Friday. The tunnel is expected to remain closed for a period of time.
