E6 Raudhammartunnelen to remain closed for an extended period
Raudhammartunnelen on the E6 in Sørfold in Nordland county will remain closed for an extended period.
This is following a bus fire friday morning. The fire caused extensive damage to the tunnel.
– The tunnel has sustained significant damage. Rock has fallen from the tunnel ceiling and is lying in the roadway, and the cable systems have also been damaged. The safety of road users and those working in the tunnel must come first. The securing work required is extensive, and the road will therefore remain closed for an extended period, says Oddbjørg Mikkelsen of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
The recommended diversion is via National Road 77 over Junkerdalen to National Road 95/E45 and onwards to the E10 via Bjørnfjell in Sweden.
As the E6 is closed, work is under way to increase capacity on the existing ferry alternative.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has also established close cooperation with the Swedish road authorities, who are implementing measures on their road network in response to the situation.
– This is a broad and coordinated effort involving many agencies and stakeholders. We are working intensively across sectors to address the challenges caused by this situation, Mikkelsen adds.
Customs regulations for the transport of weapons and animals by private motorists remain unchanged. The Norwegian Customs Authority is actively implementing measures to facilitate Norwegian commercial transport.
